Boy. What is a stroke? I had Stroke101 real quick last weekend when my Dad calls to tell me Mom had a stroke. First reaction? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Not MY Mom! Second reaction? What do we do to fix it? I'm like Bob the Builder, I want to fix it. We NEED to fix it. So we pray. And trust the doctors that have been assigned to Mom's healthcare.
The worst part of this stroke is that it has affected my mothers eyesight, very much. Her speech has come back to almost normal. And some of her memory is scrambled- not gone, just scrambled around in sequence in some places, but I have seen allot of improvement there too. But her vision loss is worrisome. I know there are millions of blind people in this world, but she's my Mom, and I want her to see again. I don't pray she sees perfectly, just enough that when my new grandchild gets here, she can see her little face. So that she can see my grandson's sunny smile and precious blue eyes. His inherited dimple. So she can see another sunset with my Dad. So she can see her puppy grow, a movie on TV. Her future great grandchildren, the rest of her grandchildren get married, etc etc.
Are we asking for too much? We don't know yet, she has a long road of healing ahead of her. But she can walk, and talk, and do things for herself so she has dignity, so for right now, we are Blessed and it's enough. For now. I have hope for the future though, and I won't hope for the best and expect the worst,
I want more than that for my Mom.
I wish I knew how to fix it.
I want her to be able to see.
